This monument is a centerpiece of the cultural park in Chinggis City, designed to educate both locals and visitors on the continuity of the Mongolian state.

  • The 36 Khans: The site features series of black marble or granite slabs. Each slab is inscribed with the name, reign dates, and key achievements of one of the 35 Great Khans who ruled the Mongol Empire and the Northern Yuan Dynasty.

  • The Symbolism: The arrangement typically begins with Chinggis Khaan and follows the succession through his sons and grandsons (like Ögedei and Kublai) all the way to Ligdan Khan (the last Great Khan of the 17th century). This emphasizes the "Golden Lineage" (Altan Urag) of the Borjigin clan.

  • Architecture: The design often uses a circular or semi-circular layout, symbolizing unity and the "Eternal Blue Sky." The contrast between the dark stone and the engraved gold or silver script makes the historical data highly readable and dignified.

  • Historical Accuracy: In Mongolian history, the "35 Khans" refers to the rulers of the Central/Eastern Mongols post-Empire. This site serves as a vital record, as many of these names were suppressed or ignored during the socialist era in Mongolia.
