Mongolian Visa Permission (Invitation) Guide

Official 2026 Procedures for Invitations and Immigration Agency Approvals

What is a Visa Permission (Invitation)?
In Mongolia, a "Visa Permission" is an official document issued by the Immigration Agency of Mongolia. It is required for most long-term visas and certain short-term categories before you can apply for the actual visa at a Mongolian Embassy or Consulate.
STEP 1

Determine Your Visa Category

Before you start, you must know which visa category the invitee needs. Common categories include:

  • H1 / F1: Family or private visit (for family of residents or citizens).
  • B: Business (for short-term business meetings or research).
  • HG / C2: Employment (for those coming to work under a contract).
  • K2: Tourism (Note: Many nationalities are currently visa-exempt; check the list first).

STEP 2

Gather Required Documents

The inviter (the person or organization in Mongolia) is responsible for the application. Requirements include:

  • Official Request Letter: Must state purpose, duration, and the specific Embassy where the visa will be collected.
  • Passport Copy: Clear color scan (valid for 180+ days).
  • Inviter’s ID: Copy of Mongolian citizen ID or company Registration Certificate.
  • Supporting Proof: Marriage certificates, work permits, or business project plans.
  • Photo: Digital passport photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm) from the last 6 months.
STEP 3

Apply Online

You no longer need to visit the office in person for the initial application. Use the digital portals:

  • Portals: immigration.gov.mn or evisa.mn.
  • Action: Fill in inviter/invitee details exactly as they appear on passports and upload scanned PDFs/JPEGs.
STEP 4

Pay the Service Fee

Payment is made via bank transfer to the official account (Golomt Bank).

  • Standard Service: ~2,500 MNT (approx. 5 working days).
  • Expedited Service: ~5,000 MNT (approx. 3 working days).

*Save your digital receipt for the transaction number.

STEP 5 & 6

Approval & Collection

Once approved, a Visa Permission Number will be sent to your email. This is valid for 60 days.

The Immigration Agency electronically sends the permission to your specified Embassy. You then visit that Embassy to have the visa sticker placed in your passport.

⚠️ Important Reminders

  • The 21-Day Rule: Visitors staying over 30/90 days must register with the Immigration Agency within 21 days of entry.
  • Accuracy: The "Visa Receiving Point" must be exact. If you select Beijing, you cannot collect in Seoul.
  • Translation: All non-Mongolian documents must be officially translated and notarized.
