Ulaanbaatar Public Buses: Complete Guide, Routes, Fares, and Map in English
Ulaanbaatar public buses are the primary mode of transportation in Mongolia’s capital city and are the most affordable way to get around. With 1,200 daily buses operated by 21 different companies, these buses serve residents and visitors across 79 routes in Ulaanbaatar.
In addition to city buses, Mongolia also has a network of long-distance buses connecting Ulaanbaatar to other provincial cities and towns.
Reliability and Crowds
Ulaanbaatar public buses are generally reliable, with frequent departures. However, some routes can get crowded, especially during rush hours:
-
Morning: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM (people going to work)
-
Evening: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM (people returning home)
Bus Tracking and Route Information
For easier navigation, you can use apps like UB Smart Bus and locate bus stops. While the menus are available in English, the bus lines and stops are in Mongolian Cyrillic, so basic knowledge of Mongolian helps but is not required.
NomadGo is also developing a user-friendly English version of Ulaanbaatar bus routes and schedules, which will make public transport navigation even easier.
